What is Hypnosis?
HYPNOSIS IS:
A modality that has historical and scientific empirical evidence to support it. The modern term “hypnosis” was made popular in 1800 by Austrian physician Franz Mesmer (from which we derived the word "mesmerized) but the practice of hypnosis can be found in the sleep temples of Kemet (also known by its Greek name Ancient Egypt) over 6000 years ago.
Sleep temples were spiritual healing centers that treated a variety of ailments, many of them psychological in nature. The treatment involved chanting, placing the patient into a trance-like, meditative state to induce self-healing and self-actualization.
Hypnotherapy involves psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, suggestive and auto-suggestive therapeutic practice to impress the subconscious mind to empower the individual to take positive repetitive action until he/she creates that desired behavioral change.
Hypnosis is a NATURAL STATE: we all go into at least twice a day, 30 minutes before you go to sleep and just upon waking up. It’s that "magic" window when you’re not asleep, but you also not fully awake. It is when your conscious and critical mind has shut down and your subconscious open to positive suggestions.
-
Have you ever been driving and arrived home and didn't remember the drive? You were in a state of hypnosis.
-
Athletes and artists go into hypnosis often, but we call it being in “The Zone”. When you’re in the zone you don’t think about what you’re doing you feel it and go into a heightened state of awareness. When a basketball player is in the zone we say things like; "he's on 🔥 no one could guard him! The brotha was unconscious." this verbiage unbeknownst to many is accurate and defines the hypnotic state of mind.
-
Another example of this is when you experience runner's high.
The modern-day medical profession is acknowledging that those patients, who meditate, pray and possess healthy positive thoughts, belief systems and spiritual practices tend to heal at a significantly greater rate than those who do not.
Hypnotherapy is a process to aid one in changing subconscious beliefs in order to manifest a more promising life if he/she is willing to put in the work.
Hypnotherapy is an extremely powerful tool in which to treat a plethora of issues and conditions.
It is a natural process that accesses the power of your own mind through repetitive suggestions, active visualizations, and persistent action to achieve your self-improvement goals.
The "mind" is a powerful tool that is often underutilized and hypnosis can release some mind exalting results. In some cases, a medical referral may be required for issues of pain management and other medical-related issues. A referral from the appropriate psychology professional may be required.
It would be nearly impossible to list every possible application for hypnotherapy.
Listed below is a non-exhaustive list of possible applications of hypnotherapy.
